Friday Facts - Scottish Cup Finals
Tomorrow sees the fifth final contested between both teams. Rangers FC have the advantage lifting the trophy on three occasions. Heart of Midlothian FC lifted the trophy in the most recent time that they faced each other in the Final. The first time the two teams faced each other it took two replays to separate the sides in the 1902-1903 season.
This season is the 95th season where then Scottish Cup Final is going to be decided at the current Hampden Park. There have been 9 other locations including two previous Hampden Park’s, two Ibrox Park’s, Cathkin Park, Celtic Park, Hamilton Crescent, Kinning Park & New Logie Green.
In the earlier years of the competition if the final wasn’t decided at the first attempt there would a replay and on some occasions a second replay. Some of the early finals also ended up with the match being voided, or the trophy awarded due to walkovers, or replays ordered after the fact due to bad behaviour from fans at games.
The teams this year have both been taken beyond the 90 minutes once each on their route to the final. both also playing their closest and biggest rivals in the semi final on their way.
The game will for sure be hotly contested and will no doubt provide everyone with great entertainment.
All the best to both sides ahead of the game.
